valACYclovir Oral Suspension   50 mg/mL

    valacyclovir  500 mg  TAB   
    Ora-Plus®    SYRUP   
    Ora-Sweet® vehicle      qs to 
Recipe Total Quantity:
Final Quantity Desired: mL

Directions: 1. In a mortar, crush tablets and triturate to a fine powder.
2. Gradually levigate powder with Ora-Plus® until a liquid is formed.
3. Pour into a graduated cylinder.
4. Rinse mortar and qs to final volume with Ora-Sweet®.
5. Transfer to final container and label.

Notes If tablets are difficult to crush:

1. Place tablets in mortar and crush to a powder, in batches if necessary.
2. Dissolve small amounts of the powder in water (approximately 5 mL total) over 5 to 10 minutes and grind to form a smooth paste.
3. Follow remaining steps in Directions section.


1. Place tablets in mortar and soak in a small amount of water (approximately 5 mL) for 5 to 10 minutes.
2. Once tablets are sufficiently softened/dissolved, grind tablets to form a smooth paste.
3. Follow remaining steps in Directions section.

Ora-Sweet SF® can be used instead of Ora-Sweet®.

Ora-Sweet SF® should not be used in neonates less than or equal to 28 days corrected age.
