Recipe - Compounding Worksheet

Pyrimethamine Oral Suspension (prepared from tablets)   2 mg/mL
Lot No Expiry(mm/yyyy) Ingredients Master Formula
    pyrimethamine  25 mg  TAB   
    Methylcellulose (preserved with parabens)  1%  PO SOLN   
    Simple syrup       
Recipe Total Quantity:
Final Quantity Desired: mL

Directions: 1. In a mortar, crush tablets and triturate to a fine powder.
2. Mix methylcellulose and simple syrup together (1:1) to make vehicle.
3. Gradually levigate powder with vehicle until a liquid is formed.
4. Pour into a graduated cylinder.
5. Rinse mortar and qs to final volume with vehicle.
6. Transfer to final container and label.

Notes Pyrimethamine tablets have been discontinued in Canada. See recipe using USP powder.

HSC Suspending vehicle can be used instead of Methylcellulose 1% (preserved with parabens) and Simple Syrup.

Stability of the formulation will depend on the suspending vehicle used (see Storage/Expiry and Reference section).
