Naltrexone Oral Suspension (LOW STRENGTH)   1 mg/mL
Lot No Expiry(mm/yyyy) Ingredients Master Formula
    naltrexone  50 mg  TAB   
    ascorbic acid  500 mg  TAB   
    sodium benzoate    PWD   
    glycerin  100%  PO SOLN   
    Water, sterile       qs to 
Recipe Total Quantity:
Final Quantity Desired: mL

Directions: 1. In a mortar, crush tablets of naltrexone and ascorbic acid and triturate to a fine powder.
2. Mix in sodium benzoate powder with powder mixture.
3. Levigate powder with glycerin to form a paste.
4. Gradually levigate water into paste to form a liquid.
5. Pour into a graduated cylinder.
6. Rinse mortar and qs to final volume with water.
7. Transfer to final container and label.

Notes The final product may be filtered to improve the gritty texture and appearance.

Mixing required dose with fruit juice or flavored drinks just prior to administration can decrease bitter taste of preparation.

Naltrexone 1 mg/mL suspension stable for 90 days at room temperature or refrigerated, but developed yellow discoloration. Authors recommended 60 days refrigerated or 30 days at room temperature.
