Recipe - Compounding Worksheet

Levofloxacin Oral Suspension   50 mg/mL

    levofloxacin  500 mg  TAB   
    Ora-PlusŪ / Cherry Syrup   1:1    qs to 
Recipe Total Quantity:
Final Quantity Desired: mL

Directions: 1. Place tablets in mortar and soak with a small amount of water.
2. Once sufficiently softened, grind tablets into a smooth paste.
3. Mix Ora-PlusŪ and cherry syrup together (1:1) and levigate with paste until a liquid is formed.
4. Pour into a graduated cylinder.
5. Rinse mortar and qs to final volume with vehicle.
6. Transfer to final container and label.

Notes Please note recipe requires the ready-to-use cherry syrup, NOT the cherry syrup concentrate. If your site uses the concentrate, it MUST be diluted before using in the recipe.

If using the cherry syrup concentrate, use the dilution instructions on the bottle. If using Lynch Wild Cherry Flavoured Syrup, the directions are: Mix 1 part syrup to 5 parts carbonated or non-carbonated water.

Study in reference used strawberry syrup instead of cherry syrup.
