Mercaptopurine Oral Suspension   50 mg/mL

    mercaptopurine  50 mg  TAB   
    ascorbic acid  500 mg  TAB   
    Water, sterile        
    Simple syrup        
    Cherry syrup      qs to  
Recipe Total Quantity:

Directions: HAZARDOUS - CYTOTOXIC
Refer to the AHS Hazardous Medication Handling Guide for more information.

1. In a mortar, crush mercaptopurine and vitamin C tablets and levigate with water to form a smooth paste.
2. Add the simple syrup with continuous mixing.
3. Pour into a measuring container.
4. Rinse the mortar and qs to final volume with cherry syrup. Mix well.
5. Transfer to final container and label.

Notes Please note that this recipe uses the ready-to-use cherry syrup, NOT the cherry syrup concentrate. If your site uses the concentrate, it MUST be diluted before using in the recipe.

Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) powder can be used instead of Vitamin C tablets.

Regular non-chewable tablets of Vitamin C can be used instead of the chewable tablets. Color of final product may differ depending upon the excipients in the tablets.

May also dispense in oral amber plastic syringes.
